O Magnum Mysterium (Lauridsen)
PREAMBLE
Morten Lauridsen’s treatment of the ‘Magnum Mysterium’ text is that of a more emotional approach than Poulenc; the apex of the piece is of Mary and her impending sorrow. He also ends with the ‘Alleluia’, which Poulenc chose to leave out. Please see the link to watch Morten Lauridsen discuss his inspiration and approach to the Magnum. You will appreciate that referring to Lauridsen as a ‘master of his art’ is a colossal understatement; https://music.usc.edu/mortenlauridsen/celebrating-morten-lauridsen-o-magnum-mysterium/
