Stars I Shall Find (Houston)

PREAMBLE

Stars I Shall Find is a setting of the poem “There Will Be Rest” by Sara Teasdale (1884-1933). Teasdale suffered from depression and died of suicide. The poem speaks to the possibility of finding peace in the midst of sorrow. This setting by Seth Houston sonically speaks to themes of vastness and isolation through soaring melodies and abrupt changes in tone and dynamic. At the heart of this selection we find despair, steely resolve, and finally comfort written in the stars.
